IRS Electronic Payment Options

Effective September 30, 2025, all payments to the federal government (specifically federal estimated tax payments and federal refunds and balances due) must be made electronically unless an approved exception applies. Electronic payment options include:

IRS Online (through ID Me Account): best option as it allows you to view balances and payments made.

Direct Pay: for individuals making a payment directly from their bank account

Payment with Debit card or Credit Card
